SJTA expands E-ZPass Plus in Atlantic City
Implementing its policy of providing the best in customer service, the South Jersey Transportation Authority is bringing new convenience to its Atlantic Avenue open-air parking facility, which offers convenient access to The Walk, the Convention Center and other entertainment and shopping venues.
On Wednesday Atlantic City Mayor Robert W. Levy, Sr., joined SJTA officials in inaugurating E-ZPass Plus at the 299-space facility at Atlantic and Mississippi avenues. Patrons will also be offered another SJTA convenience, “The Breeze,” a shuttle service with stops at the Sands Hotel-Casino, along the Walk and at the Convention Center.
“Parking is crucial to keeping the economy of Atlantic City growing,” Levy said. “We welcome the SJTA’s investment in making Atlantic City a more convenient destination for the visiting public. The Atlantic Avenue parking lot symbolizes the close relationship between the SJTA and Atlantic City.”
“We are giving our patrons the latest in payment convenience at the most convenient parking spot in Atlantic City,” said SJTA Chairman Frank Spencer. “The Authority is committed to using state-of-the-art technology to benefit the traveling public.”
E-ZPass Plus is the same system the SJTA installed at its New York Avenue parking garage in 2005. It is available to any E-ZPass account holder who uses a credit card in good standing to replenish his revolving electronic tolls account.
Using the new system is E-Z. Eligible customers take a ticket as usual upon entry. When leaving, they should insert the parking ticket into the electronic reader at the cashier’s booth and select the E-ZPass Plus option from the prompts. The rest is automatic. The fee will be charged to the E-ZPass account – unless it exceeds $20, when it will be charged directly to the backup credit card account. When the driver takes the receipt, the gate opens.
The South Jersey Transportation Authority owns and operates the Atlantic City Expressway, Atlantic City International Airport, and parking facilities at the airport as well as in Atlantic City.
Acting Executive Director James R. Iannone said the SJTA plans to install E-ZPass Plus at the Airport once construction of a new parking garage there is completed. “This installation serves our mission of fostering growth in the regional economy. The Authority has had 40-plus years of safe and efficient travel and delivering service to our customers,” Iannone said. “We’re also exploring public-private partnerships in applications of this technology.”
