The SJTA's Carole Miller Saturday received the first-ever Camden County Veterans Special Recognition Award -- for making a difference in the lives of veterans. She was among those nominated by community leaders. Her nomination came from Camden County Clerk James Beach. Earlier this year the Transportation Services Department, which Carole heads, initiated a special veterans' shuttle to VA hospitals and other medical providers in Camden and Gloucester counties.
The awards ceremony took place Oct. 29 on board the USS New Jersey, which is moored on the Camden waterfront as a floating museum. Rep. Robert E. Andrews addressed the audience and award recipients Saturday, Oct. 29.
General Tommy Franks, commander of Operation Iraqi Freedom, was the featured speaker later at the Tribute to Veterans, also on the battleship.
