Bridge Bearing and Beam Spot Painting  Atlantic City Expressway

Project Overview

The Bridge Bearing and Beam Spot Painting project includes the cleaning and repainting of various bridge elements along the Atlantic City Expressway.  The fascia beams of all steel bridges will be repainted in their entirety as well as various sections of other steel beams on an as-needed basis.  The two bridges carrying the Expressway over Route 42 will be painted in their entirety.  All bearings will be cleaned and painted on every Expressway Bridge.

The painting of the bridges will help to prevent deterioration of the structures, preserve their structural integrity, improve safety and extend their useful life.  The new paint will prevent corrosion damage, as well as provide an additional environmental and safety factor by eliminating exposure to any existing lead paint currently on some structures.

All painting work will involve the removal of the existing paint by certified professionals who are required to follow an approved Containment Plan, Lead Health and Safety Plan and Waste Disposal Plan, as required by law.

The South Jersey Transportation Authority awarded the Construction Contract for this project to Allied Painting, Inc at their June 15, 2010 board meeting. The painting began in July of 2010 and will be completed in December 2010.

Missed the Toll

Don't despair. At SJTA we know how difficult and confusing it can be at times to change lanes during periods of heavy traffic.
