House Approves $1 Million for Atlantic City International Airport

WASHINGTON, D.C (June 14, 2006) . – U.S. Representative Frank A. LoBiondo (NJ-02) announced today the House of Representatives approved its Fiscal Year 2007 Transportation-Treasury-HUD-Judiciary-DC Appropriations bill (H.R.5576) containing $1 million for the Atlantic City International Airport. The House approved the spending bill 406 to 22.

“With more than a million people traveling to and from Atlantic City via air travel last year alone, this federal support is critical to expanding the operations and facilities while improving safety and security at the Atlantic City International Airport,” said LoBiondo, a member of the House Aviation Subcommittee. “I will continue to work for additional federal resources for the airport to ensure the safety and comfort of passengers and visitors to the region.”

“This funding is critical and will begin the design for the next phase of development which will permit further expansion and improve aircraft movement and safety conditions,” said Frank Spencer, Chairman of the South Jersey Transportation Authority.

Under the House’s annual appropriations bill, the $1 million in funding will go to expansion of the current apron and for needed improvements to drainage, taxiway lighting and pavement markings which will enhance safety and capacity at the airport.
