5/1/2007Viva Las Vegas!!!
EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP – Two quintessential Las Vegas icons will be on hand Thursday, May 3 at 1 p.m. to kick off Spirit Airlines non-stop service between Las Vegas and Atlantic City.
Flanked by a bejeweled and befeathered Vegas showgirl, the King will entertain ACY travelers during a lunch-time launch of first-ever service between the nation’s two premier entertainment and gambling destinations.
The King will be joined by New Jersey DOT Commissioner, Kris Kolluri, also the Chairman for the SJTA, Atlantic City Mayor, Bob Levy, Spirit Airlines and representatives from the Las Vegas Convention & Visitors Authority.
"We are excited to start low fare service between two of the top entertainment destinations in the world,” said Michael Pewther, Spirit’s Senior Director of Sales. “Our flights are already booking well and it is a sure bet that customers will enjoy our low fares and friendly service on this non-stop route!”
The daily nonstop flights from Atlantic City to Las Vegas will depart 6:25 p.m. daily and flights from Las Vegas will arrive daily at 5 a.m. EST.
“To quote Elvis, Las Vegas service is just the kind of “Good Luck Charm” that Atlantic City International Airport welcomes as we work to expand the number of non-stop destinations available at our convenient and customer friendly airport,” said Bart R. Mueller, executive director of the South Jersey Transportation Authority, which owns and operates the Atlantic City International Airport. “Atlantic City International Airport is a safe bet for airlines looking to expand air service and attract new customers because when airlines put seats in our market, they are filled.”
“The expansion of service from Atlantic City to Las Vegas reflects the role of Atlantic City International Airport as an emerging regional economic driver with great growth potential,” stated SJTA Chairman and New Jersey Department of Transportation Commissioner Kris Kolluri.
The Atlantic City International Airport has experienced a 27 percent increase in passenger’s year over year thus far in 2007 as a result of the addition of several Spirit Airlines flights earlier this year. Delta Connection also operates flights out of ACY connecting the market to a national transportation system out of Atlanta.
In the last few years, the SJTA has invested millions in upgrades to the ACY airfield and terminal building. The authority recently constructed a state-of-the-art baggage screening facility and broke ground on a six story - 1,400 space parking garage just steps from the terminal building. During 2007, major upgrades are planned for the interior of the terminal and the installation of an escalator bringing passengers from arriving flights directly into the baggage claim area for improved convenient passenger movements through the building.
