SJTA names Scott Gillespie February’s Employee of the Month
A licensed plumber, Scott has been with the Expressway for over 30 years, beginning in 1975 as an apprentice plumber in maintenance for the New Jersey Expressway Authority and working his way up the ranks to his current SJTA position. Scott was past president of Local 193-A, the supervisor's union at the Authority, and leads a group of nearly 20 craftsmen -– among them electricians, plumbers, craftsmen, painters, welders and tunnel technicians, scheduling their work and providing direction in their daily tasks. In his position, Scott is directly responsible for the maintenance of Authority facilities, including buildings, airport terminal, parking garage and the Connector tunnel to name a few.
Gillespie takes a lighter view of his job. “If it happens under a roof -– everything from fixing a plugged up toilet to changing a light bulb -- that’s me. I’ve got my hand in just about everything,” he said.
“Scott was selected as the Engineering employee of the month because of his dependability and for his continued dedication to the Authority, oft times called on during off-hours to handle emergencies,” said Chief Engineer Sam Donelson. “Scott is known as a ‘go-to’ person when the job has to be completed and is a valued member of the SJTA team.”
Gillespie lives in Galloway Township with his wife, Marianne. They are especially proud of their two college-age daughters, Tracey, a student at Ramapo College in Bergen County, and Jessica, who’s a student at Stockton College closer to home.
