Airport Director Announces Retirement
April 24, 2012 - Thomas Rafter, AAE, the longtime Airport Director at Atlantic City International Airport (ACY), has announced his retirement effective May 31, 2012.
Mr. Rafter began his aviation career in 1981 at Bader Field, which was owned by the City of Atlantic City, and held various positions at Bader Field and ACY until December 1992, when he took a position with the South Jersey Transportation Authority (SJTA), the new owner and operator of ACY. Mr. Rafter was hired as the Airport Programs Manager and in September 1995 became the Airport Director.
“Tom will not be easy to replace and we all wish him well,” said Bart R. Mueller, Executive Director of the SJTA. “He is a true advocate of ACY and has a wealth of knowledge about the aviation industry.”
Mr. Rafter oversaw many projects at ACY, including the rebuilding of the main runway, and adding a second floor to the terminal. He presided over the airport as it went from mostly charter service to the regional International Airport it is today.
Mr. Rafter resides in Longport with his wife, Trish and three children.
