Atlantic City Airport Adds New Security Measure
Egg Harbor Township, NJ Fixed security bollards will be installed at Atlantic City International Airport (ACY) beginning this week as part of the nearly completed terminal expansion project, which will add three additional departure and arrival gates to the airport. The security measure will create a barricade around vulnerable zones to improve the safety of areas surrounding the airport, including the expanded terminal.
ACY officials are advising travelers and employees to plan ahead to avoid any delays that may be caused by the construction of the bollards. Traffic near and around the terminal building may be impacted as one lane of vehicular traffic will be closed. Pedestrians will have access to a temporary walkway in certain locations during the construction.
Implementing this vital security mechanism has been a part of our expansion plan from the start, said Bart R. Mueller, executive director of the South Jersey Transportation Authority, which owns and operates the airport. The bollards help us to maintain a safe area in and around the Terminal.
The fixed security bollards are expected to be in place by September 1. 2012.
