LoBiondo Applauds New Air Service at ACY Announcement by Governor, Port Authority of New York/New Jersey Today Brings United Airlines' Flights to South Jersey

U.S. Congressman Frank A. LoBiondo (NJ-02), Chairman of the House Aviation Subcommittee, today applauded the announcement that United Airlines will now fly in and out of Atlantic City International Airport (ACY) from their hubs in Chicago and Houston. The announcement was made this morning by New Jersey Governor Chris Christie with representatives from United Airlines, the Port Authority of New York/New Jersey and the South Jersey Transportation Authority (SJTA) at Newark Liberty Airport, a hub for United Airlines.

Todays announcement is a win-win for South Jersey and United Airlines. Ive long said that ACY is an attractive option for additional commercial carrier service, with its updated facilities, proximity to Atlantic City and the Jersey Shore as well as its convenience to the Philadelphia metropolitan region. Starting in 2014, United Airlines will capitalize on what ACY has to offer while giving South Jersey consumers and businesses greater access to the nations vast aviation network, said LoBiondo. For our tourism-based economy, connecting additional regions of the country to South Jersey is critical and will bring additional economic opportunities and the potential for new jobs.

On July 1st, an agreement between the Port Authority of New York/New Jersey and the STJA took affect with the Port Authority providing general management services, including overseeing the daily business operations of ACY. The SJTA maintains operations and direction over the airport. At that time the Port Authority stated the goal of bringing additional commercial carrier services to ACY. Spirit Airlines is currently the only commercial service at ACY.

I applaud Governor Christie, Sam Donelson at the SJTA, and the leadership at the Port of New York/New Jersey for recognizing the untapped potential at ACY and working in unison to increase commercial air service to our region. I look forward to formally welcoming United Airlines to ACY next year, concluded LoBiondo.
