Atlantic City International Airport Opens Expanded Terminal and Federal Inspection Station

SJTA Commissioner Joe Ripa and Acting Executive Director Sam Donelson cut a ribbon to commemorate the ACY Terminal Expansion completion. Donelson and Ripa were joined by Congressman LoBiondo and other state and local officials.
Egg Harbor Township, NJ Congressman Frank LoBiondo joined officials today from the South Jersey Transportation Authority (SJTA) and other state and local officials to celebrate the grand opening of the newly expanded Terminal and Federal Inspection Station at the Atlantic City International Airport (ACY).

ACYs Terminal was expanded by 75,000 square-feet and includes a Federal Inspection Station (FIS) providing the ability to process international travelers. This new addition will allow airport officials to pursue international air carriers and air service routes.

This expansion project brings the airport one step closer to opening the door for the expansion of scheduled service and provides a facility to process international flights, said Congressman LoBiondo. Regional stakeholders can now work cooperatively to attract new customers from outer markets to continue to enhance the passenger growth which is increasing each year. added LoBiondo.

The $25.1 million construction project includes the addition of a Customs and Border Patrol Facility, an expanded baggage claim area that will provide space for customs services to process international passengers, apron reconstruction, the installation of three new passenger boarding bridges, relocated aircraft parking and the installation of specialized and general building equipment. Additional concessions and restrooms to accommodate the increase in passengers are also included in the project.

We are very pleased with the work that went into making this project come to fruition but our mission is far from done, said Sam Donelson, acting executive director for SJTA. This project is our way of rolling out the red carpet to welcome international air service.

The addition created 385 direct full time jobs within the various trades as the project was built. When fully operational, about 60 primary and secondary retail jobs, approximately 12 border and customs officers plus additional custodial, security, and flight related personnel are expected.
