SJTA Donates Space for 48 Blocks Art Festival Mural

HAMMONTON, NJ – June 22, 2018 – Take an otherwise drab five-foot by five-foot block of cement, add a lot of talent and get a mural the neighborhood can be proud of. That’s one result of this year’s 48 Blocks Arts Festival staged by the Atlantic City Arts Foundation that invited the South Jersey Transportation Authority to participate this year.

The cement block sits atop a mound at one end of the Atlantic City Brigantine Tunnel Connector which the SJTA operates as part of the Atlantic City Expressway. Technically the cement block houses the end line of the force main for the tunnel’s drainage system, but the talent of Atlantic City painter Linda Brisco is turning it into a work of art for her neighbors in Monroe Park to enjoy.

“The SJTA is proud to be a sponsor for the 2018 48 Blocks Celebration. We are thrilled to accommodate a very talented Linda Brisco,” commented SJTA Community Relations Manager Charles Garrett.

Brisco’s mural design depicts an underwater scene full of colorful fish and flora that flows around all four sides the concrete structure sitting in a neighborhood park. The 48 Blocks AC arts festival is an annual event that celebrates the artistic talent, culture and history of Atlantic City and runs this weekend from June 22 to June 24, 2018. The festival name derives from the fact Atlantic City is comprised of 48 city blocks in total.
