RESOLUTION 2008-119 OF THE SOUTH JERSEY TRANSPORTATION AUTHORITY AUTHORIZING A TOLL INCREASE ON THE ATLANTIC CITY EXPRESSWAY
Resolution 2008-119 is authorization for adjustment of tolls on the Atlantic City Expressway pursuant to Resolution 2008-106 and our enabling Statute. A Public Notice was placed in six newspapers and on the SJTA website ten (10) days in advance of three public hearings. The Public Hearings were held on September 23rd and 24th in Camden, Atlantic and Gloucester Counties. Verbatim transcripts of the hearings and the Hearing Officer’s Report were provided to the Commissioners along with public comments received prior to the October 1st deadline.
The proceeds of the proposed toll increase will be used to fund the Atlantic City Expressway widening from the Garden State Parkway to Route 73, Berlin-Cross Keys Bridge improvements, Pacific and Atlantic Avenues One-Way, bridge repair and re-decking, Airport improvements and pavement rehabilitation.
This resolution, in an effort to act as an economic stimulus, also authorizes institution of a tourism discount to offset the increased tolls on the Atlantic City Expressway on Friday and Saturday evenings between 5-7:00 p.m. to be effective no earlier than November 17, 2008 through May 18, 2009 and October 15, 2009 through May 18, 2010 for each of the next two years. The resolution for the tourism discount is intended to encourage tourism in the Atlantic County region and to promote increased E-ZPass usage.
