About A.C. International Airport

Overview
History

The Atlantic City International Airport is recognized for having the shortest wait time of all New Jersey airports, as well as a speedier in-and-out time than the Philadelphia International airport. The airport records a rising number of passengers annually and is capable of handling major carriers and more flight frequencies.

In addition to the approximately 2,200 acres of land leased to the SJTA from the Federal Aviation Administration Tech Center, the Airport consists of another approximately 2,700 acres retained by the FAATC for its mission. The property also includes various government agencies - among them the New Jersey Air National Guard 177th Fighter Wing, United States Coast Guard Air Station/Atlantic City, and the Transportation Security Agency Federal Air Marshall National Training Center.

In February 2004, the FAA issued a Record of Decision for terminal and airfield projects at ACY. This ROD included Terminal Area Development, Auxiliary Area Development, Hotel/Conference Center, Instrument Landing System upgrade and Holding Aprons. In recent years, the SJTA has completed a taxiway relocation project, constructed a state-of-the art-baggage screening facility, erected a $26.3 million, six-story parking garage, and has begun a $2.5 million terminal renovations project to further improve the airport.

In an effort to grow, ACY has engaged in a coalition with Atlantic City destination and economic development stakeholders with the goal of attracting carriers and connectivity to the national air travel system. This coalition is expected to make Atlantic City more accessible to major markets such as Boston, Chicago, Atlanta, and cities east of the Mississippi.

The airport’s main carrier, Spirit Airlines offers low-fair, frequent flights to Fort Lauderdale, Orlando, Tampa, Fort Myers, and Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.  Spirit also announced its new Boston-Atlantic City service to begin May 1, 2009.
