Stanley R. Glassey, better known to everyone at SJTA and South Jersey as Jake, was honored Tuesday for his 13 continuous years on the Board of Commissioners. He had been serving for six months after his term expired.
Board Chairman Frank Spencer presented Glassey, who also serves on the Egg Harbor Township governing body, with a resolution commending his service "guiding the Authority through its infancy and development." Glassey was a charter member of the Authority in 1992, along with Commissioner Louis Toscano of Atlantic City, and served as board chairman. Acting Executive Director James Iannone also served with Glassey on the founding board.
Glassey thanked the administrative staff, "union workers out on the road" and State Troopers for their contribution to safe and efficient travel on the Atlantic City Expressway, which is "the best bargain in New Jersey." He said he hoped political considerations would not interfere with plans to develop Atlantic City International Airport, especially the much needed parking garage.
As to his own plans for the future, Glassey said, "I have a date to go fishing on Delaware Bay Friday if the weather isn't too bad."
