SJTA Transportation Services Division

The South Jersey Transportation Authority (SJTA) created its Transportation Services Department in January 2004. This department oversees parking at all Authority locations as well as provides reliable transportation to residents with direct connections to NJ Transit routes and rail lines, higher education institutions, social services, health care facilities, employment centers and private sector businesses.

In 2005, Transportation Services assumed direct responsibility of parking operations at the Atlantic City International Airport (ACY) and Atlantic City. At that time, the challenge to attract new air carriers was directly affected by the parking deficiencies at ACY, including the lack of shuttle service to and from the terminal. In April of that same year, in an effort to provide enhanced services, SJTA implemented a demand responsive shuttle service from the terminal to the parking lots within the Airport complex. That first month demonstrated how much these services were needed, as SJTA shuttles provided 5,062 passenger trips while decreasing complaints from 120 in January to just three in April. Now, 11 years later, the Airport shuttle provided 115,000 passenger trips, as the Airport serviced more than 1.2M passengers.

Transportation Services has proven to be a regional transportation provider and continues to expand its Southern New Jersey initiative with two recent additions, the Pureland East West Community Shuttle in 2015 and the Route 54/40 Community Shuttle in 2016. Both services provide residents access to employment, social services, shopping and education with over one hundred connections to NJ Transit bus routes.

Transportation Services annual passenger volume reflects its ever-expanding mission. During 2016, there were 427,000 one-way passenger trips recorded. Not only do these trips provide opportunities to residents who might otherwise not have reliable transportation, but they also reduce roadway congestion and emissions while extending the lifespan of our roads and highways.
